Fast and Hard Is So Much More Fun
“Wanna drive?” Declan asks, holding the key fob in front of me.
“Really?!” My excitement is quickly doused in fear, as he nods his head and opens the driver’s side door of his car for me.
Saying that Declan’s Ferrari is beautiful is the understatement of the decade. It’s gorgeous in a way that is hard to fully admire, because every part of it is stunning. Every angle, every detail.
As Declan closes me into the driver’s seat and jogs around to get in the passenger side, I wrap my hands around the steering wheel. Goosebumps dot my arms and my stomach flutters with excitement and a smidge of fear.
After sitting through the most boring work event ever, I did not see this night perking up so quickly.
“Press the red start button on the steering wheel,” he says as he buckles.
“I know. I’m just having a moment.”
One side of his mouth lifts with a smile. “Wait until you start it up.”
“I’ve ridden in your car before.” Lots of times now actually. How is this my life? Riding in a Ferrari, living in a gorgeous home, and married to a professional hockey player?!
With shaky hands, I put on the seat belt and adjust the seat, so I can reach everything. And then I hit the red button. The car roars to life and my sex clenches.
Declan’s chuckle draws my attention.
“Told you,” he says and hits the auto button on the console, so I don’t have to worry about shifting.
“I’m nervous,” I admit.
“You’ve got this.” He angles his big body slightly toward me. “Put it in reverse.”
I do and slowly press down on the gas. My mind spins and I use every single bit of brain power to focus on driving. I get us out of the parking lot and turn in the direction of home.
“Don’t be afraid,” Declan encourages me. “Give it a little more.”
I’m practically sweating. “I’m good. Slow and steady wins the race, right?”
“But fast and hard is so much more fun.” His palm settles on my thigh and the sensation causes me to press down on the gas a little more. “There you go. Turn right at the next light.”
It isn’t the way home, but I do as he says anyway.
As I get a smidge more comfortable driving his very gorgeous, very fast, very expensive car, Declan turns on some music.
“Where am I going?” I ask, as he instructs me to take another turn.
“There’s a quiet stretch of road out this way. I almost bought a house here.”
I take my eyes off the road long enough to glance at the homes nearby. They’re spaced farther apart than then neighborhood he lives in now. The yards are bigger, and the homes feel homier somehow, less extravagant and more lived in. The kind of place you settle down in to raise a family. I can’t picture him here. His house now is so perfect for him.
“Why didn’t you?” I ask. My hands relax on the wheel.
“I wanted to be near the guys. Plus, it’s closer to the arena.”
I really like how important his teammates and friends are to him, and I think it’s good he chose to buy a place in the same neighborhood. I don’t like the idea of him being all alone out here.
“Okay, this is a straight stretch, so feel free to punch it.”
“There will be no punching,” I assure him.
“What happened to my ballsy wife?”
“I’m trying to learn from my mistakes.” I give him a small smile. “I’ve gotten myself in a lot of messy situations lately. I don’t want to be that person that always needs rescuing.”
“There’s no rescue here. Just two people out for a little joy ride.”
I huff a laugh.
“I won’t let anything happen to you.” His hand lifts from my leg to the back of my neck. The pad of his thumb drags along my skin. “Trust yourself.”
I don’t know if it’s his words or his touch, but warmth spreads through me. He’s right. I’ve been playing it safe lately. I don’t know if it’s for his benefit or if I’ve just been scared, but I have been holding back in all kinds of ways.
Those flutters in my stomach grow more insistent as I press my foot down a little more. I can feel Declan’s smile, but I don’t dare take my eyes off the road. The mailboxes are a blur as we speed by them.
“Stop up ahead,” he warns, and I locate the dot of red fast approaching and let off the gas.
It feels like we’re in the middle of nowhere. A large field stretches out in front of us, forcing us to turn right or left.
“Right will loop us back toward home.”
“A whole lot more of nothing.”
I turn left and he chuckles. I punch it again, loving the feel and sound of the car. I feel powerful and…sexy. Declan’s hand still rests on my neck and it’s distracting in the best possible way.
“I think I want to have sex.”
“What?” His brows furrow and he turns the music down.
Pulling the car over to the side of the deserted road, I repeat myself. “I want to have sex.”
“Turn us around. The house is about twenty minutes away. Fifteen, if you ignore the speed limit.”
I unbuckle quickly and climb into his lap. There isn’t a lot of room and I’m still in my dress from the event, so it isn’t an easy maneuver.
My head knocks into his forehead and a ripping sound causes me to still, half straddling him. “Oh no, my dress.”
He went from confused to completely on board. Those dark eyes burn into me, and his hand brushes up my thigh along the tear. “I’ll buy you a new one.”
“I feel incredible,” I say, as I bring my mouth down to cover his. “Like a different person.”
“You aren’t. You’re still you. Jade Freaking Davis.” With his hands on my hips, he moves me over him, creating delicious friction.
“Sato,” I add.
He stares at me in a way that makes my heart skip several beats. I didn’t change my name officially, but it’s still how the world sees me. And if I’m honest, it’s how I’m starting to see me, too.
Hands on his hard chest, I grind over him, eliciting a deep groan and pushing him back into action.
“I’m Jade freaking Davis-Sato.”
His lips curve. You’re damn right, you are.”
